About Matt

Having originally trained and worked as a unisex stylist, Matt decided to use his outstanding scissor skills and concentrate on male hairdressing. After working in barbering for 7 years he established his barber shop in Oakworth in 2003.

Matt’s current premises are spacious, bright and modern, with back wash and drying facilities in situ. The traditional leather Belmont barber chair takes centre stage for adults, whilst the specially commissioned Italian ‘horse’ chair for babies and toddlers is believed to be the only one in West Yorkshire. For babies, the first hair cut is free!

There is ample comfortable seating and a range of reading materials, including books to keep the younger children entertained.

Matt welcomes clients of all ages. He is friendly, outgoing and versatile and quickly puts clients at their ease. Patient with older, less mobile clients or those with special needs, Matt is exceptionally good with reluctant toddlers and children, although a free lollipop to take home often helps!  In order to respond to the needs of his more fashion conscious or ‘on trend’ clients, Matt keeps abreast of all current hair trends and products.

As well as being a family man, Matt is a dedicated fell runner and an experienced Athletics Coach with KCAC. He volunteers to encourage and train local youngsters at weekly sessions, park runs and races. For many years a cricketing fast bowler, Matt also coaches cricket.  During the period of lockdown when his business was closed for 7 months due to government restrictions, he also discovered his artistic potential as a landscape artist.

Through his business Matt regularly supports local causes including raising funds for the local Sue Ryder hospice, sponsorship of Oakworth cricket and supporting community organisations and projects.
